Islamic geometric design

Before I went to Morocco I was intrigued by Islamic geometric art. When I returned from my trip, my motivation to paint the beauty I had witnessed on my trip was flowing high. I studied my photographs of the amazing tile work from cites such as Fes and Marrakesh, I purchased books on Islamic geometric design and got a better understanding of the process of design. I set my sights on drawing and then painting the intricate works of art.

The painting of the many small shapes takes a long time as many layers need to be applied to have the correct coverage of paint, along with making sure all the lines match up since it is geometric art. A high level of concentration and patience is required for this type of art since you have to work within the boundaries, there is no room for error of any level.
